GoPro HERO13 Black

The HERO13 Black records H.265 (HEVC) video with a 5K maximum resolution and a 400 fps maximum frame rate, at bitrates up to 120 Mbps. Footage is 10-bit, and both log and HDR recording are supported, which keeps more color information for grading in post. Stabilization is electronic (EIS), and timelapse and live streaming are built in.

There is no RAW video recording, and H.265 is the only codec, so editing requires software that handles HEVC. The 5K and 400 fps numbers are separate maximums for the camera, not a single shooting mode.

Stills reach 27 MP with RAW file support, captured by a 27.6 MP 1/1.9-inch CMOS sensor. The fixed lens has an f/2.5 maximum aperture and a 156° field of view, with no optical zoom.

The lens cannot be swapped. GoPro markets its HB-Series lens mods as interchangeable lenses, but these are accessories that mount over the front of the camera — the primary lens assembly is fixed, so focal-length variety means buying GoPro's mods rather than fitting other lenses.

The 2.27-inch rear screen is a fixed touchscreen with no articulation, and a 1.4-inch front screen helps with framing when the camera points back at its operator. Three built-in microphones capture ambient audio.

The body has no external mic jack and no HDMI port. Audio input and video output both require GoPro's optional Media Mod or an adapter, and there is no headphone output for monitoring sound. Native connections are USB-C, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

A removable 1,900 mAh, 7.4 Wh battery gives about 2.5 hours of recording. The redesigned pack is physically incompatible with HERO9 through HERO12 batteries, so spares from older GoPros will not fit.

There is no built-in storage, and the single microSD slot is the only recording destination, so a memory card is a required purchase. The camera weighs 154 g, measures 71.8 × 50.8 × 33.6 mm, and is waterproof to a depth of 10 m.
